A closer look at the wallpaper we created with Elise Peterson that's part of her larger effort to explore "the importance of representation and seeing yourself in work." The eyes of Niki de Saint Phalle and Faith Ringgold—two artists who resisted being pigeonholed throughout their careers—constitute the reflective foil-based pattern that Elise calls 'You Are Seen.' Brooklyn-based artist Katie Stout is a self-proclaimed “naive pop” artist whose work explores the joyful celebration of childhood innocence…with refreshingly unexpected twists. The enchanted forest-style space she created (complete with a sexy six-foot tall Sphinx, found- object sculpture, scratch and sniff floral stickers, and selfie station) for Flutter perfectly portrays her artistic pursuit.

We worked with Katie Stout to create 'As You Wish,' her second collaboration with us and that's all about challenging the conventional ideals of wallpaper and its subject, creating an elevated enchanted forest vibe that’s equal parts playful and provocative, and more of a living artwork than stagnant surface. Utilizing rich hues and bold brushstrokes to bring her cheeky creatures and free-spirited florals to life, this painterly mural is made even more majestic with a textured and reflective ombre ground. As the name suggests, As You Wish can be fully customized to suit any application and aesthetic—we’re talking scale, material, you name it. It’s a natural selection for both big and little kids seeking fantastical flavor.

Liz Collins designed what she describes as an "offshoot iteration" of the "Cave of Secrets," her 2018 exhibition at New York's New Museum. Collins repurposed certain elements for her Flutter piece, showcasing her Permanent Sunset collaboration with us, plus a multimedia component and a lightning bolt–shaped doorway. What's exciting your eyes is our Spencers colorway, which really comes to life under blacklight.

Inspired by stills from the edgy 1982 cult classic film Liquid Sky—which zeroes in on the subculture of downtown New York’s club scene in the early New Wave era—Permanent Sunset creatively captures the pleasure centers of our brains as they played a prominent part in the film’s story and art direction. Offered in a range from far out to more calming magic-hour hues, this hand-screened print (shown in Spencers) allowed us to further flex our color capabilities with transparent inks and duo chrome powders to create colorways that are truly dynamic and full of depth. It’s pure alternate dimension eye candy.

Designed by Jon Sherman, this mega mural was created by layering brightly colored 18th-century etchings over photographs of real fish...and then peppering in invisible ink to really bring the creatures to life under black light. Bathrooms can be so boring. And, we don't do boring! To really give Flutter guests a 360-degree, multi-sensory moment we teamed up with Boone Speed--rock climbing rock star and photographer--to create this mind-bending mural that works the walls and floor of the space.
Bathrooms can be so boring. And, we don't do boring! To really give Flutter guests a 360-degree, multi-sensory moment we teamed up with Boone Speed--rock climbing rock star and photographer--to create this mind-bending mural that works the walls and floor of the space.

We like to do things that are different…if that’s not perfectly clear. So, for the 2019 interactive, multi-media art exhibit Flutter in Los Angeles, we teamed up with many of the featured contemporary artists—Cyril Lancelin, Elise Peterson, Leah Guadagnoli, Liz Collins, Katie Stout, and Saya Woolfalk—to custom create wild wallpapers that flip tradition on its head. Incorporating invisible inks, scratch and sniff scents, textured and reflective materials, we really went for it to help reimagine their spaces into innovative, multi-sensory experiences. We also flavored up the rest of the pop-up with fresh designs from Boone Speed and Flavor Paper’s own Jon Sherman, as well as a few from our new Wild Life collection. Founded by Christopher Dowson and curated by Karen Robinovitz, the exhibit is all about making fine art more accessible and fun, while addressing issues surrounding mental health; a portion of proceeds from ticket sales benefit Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.

Several of the designs, including Permanent Sunset by Liz Collins, and As You Wish and Ladies by Katie Stout, have been added to our line and are available for purchase in a multitude of colorways and grounds—with customization always offered.
